May, June, July proved to be challenging months of discernment that left me needing a private space to contemplate and be.  Somehow, blogging was too loud, and I needed things to be as quiet and veiled as possible.

When fear sets in, use your "fight or flight" impulse to fight for what you need and want instead of becoming paralyzed.

Last night marked my last group meeting for my 9 month Ignatian Retreat.  It's not over for me completely--I missed several weeks throughout the retreat so I have more to go before I finish the exercises.  I'll continue to meet with my spiritual director until I'm done.

The month of March was a whirlwind.  Manhattan, UN, Boston, back home, and then a road trip up to San Francisco, Oakland, Napa, Sonoma, and all the way back down the coast through Big Sur, San Simeon (Hearst Castle), Pismo Beach, and Santa Barbara.  Big Sur was glorious and I can't wait to go back and do a retreat at New Calmaldoli Hermitage.

I'm moving this week.
Moving can make your bowl feel a little empty.

The theme for my current place in the retreat is encountering Jesus.  And you know what, that has actually been profound and good.  I've learned to differentiate Jesus from religion, and that has made me feel so much happier.

I was introduced to this interactive gem of a digital journal by J. today while discussing the heartbreaking condition of juvenile detention halls.  Have you been hearing about juv youth in the news as well?  It's been on NPR this last week and what with J. and his cohort of prison-minded friends, my awareness and involvement in the state of imprisoned youth has grown.

i need your help.
